In the fields of Sierra Leone, a quiet revolution is taking place. Women, who have long been the backbone of agriculture in our communities, are stepping into leadership roles, adopting innovative farming techniques, and transforming their lives and communities through sustainable agriculture.
Breaking Barriers in Agriculture
Despite being responsible for 60-80% of food production in Sierra Leone, women farmers often face significant challenges:
- Limited access to land and resources
- Reduced access to training and education
- Limited participation in decision-making
- Unequal access to markets and financing
"When I first started, people said farming was men's work. Now, I run a successful vegetable farm that feeds my family and employs three other women. We've proven that women can excel in agriculture when given the opportunity." - Mariama B., Women's Farming Cooperative Leader

Challenges and the Way Forward
While we've made progress, significant challenges remain in achieving gender equality in agriculture. Our ongoing efforts include:
- Advocating for women's land rights and ownership
- Expanding access to microfinance and credit for women farmers
- Challenging cultural norms through community dialogues
- Supporting young girls' education in agricultural sciences
